ADOPTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN JHARKHAND: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Dr. Smruti Ranjan Rath, Dr. Chandani Kumari
This research paper examines the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in higher education institutions across Jharkhand, with a specific focus on comparing rural and urban institutions and analyzing their impact on teaching and learning processes. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, collecting data from 25 higher education institutions (15 urban and 10 rural) through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions involving 500 students and 150 faculty members. Findings reveal a significant disparity in AI adoption rates between urban (67%) and rural (23%) institutions, primarily attributed to infrastructure limitations, funding constraints, and digital literacy gaps.
The research demonstrates that AI tools have transformed teaching methodologies in urban institutions through personalized learning, automated assessment, and data-driven decision-making, while rural institutions face substantial implementation barriers. Learning outcomes show improvement in both settings, but the magnitude is significantly higher in urban institutions. The study identifies key challenges, including inadequate technological infrastructure, resistance to change, privacy concerns, and the need for faculty training.
The paper concludes with context-specific recommendations for policymakers, institutional leaders, and educators to bridge the rural-urban divide and harness AI's potential for enhancing higher education in Jharkhand.
