AN ANALYTICAL OVERVIEW OF THE ABUA AWAS YOJANA (AAY) IN JHARKHAND
Dr. Anuranjan Kumar
The Abua Awas Yojana is a flagship housing scheme launched by the Government of Jharkhand to provide pucca (permanent) houses to economically weaker sections and homeless families across the state. Initiated with the goal of ensuring Housing for All, the scheme aims to improve living standards and promote social equity by offering financial assistance for the construction of durable, safe, and sustainable homes. Unlike the central government's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the Abua Awas Yojana is a state-funded initiative, tailored to address local needs and gaps left by national schemes. The program prioritizes beneficiaries from Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and other marginalized communities, especially those residing in remote and rural areas. Through transparent beneficiary selection, direct benefit transfer, and integration with rural development programs, the Abua Awas Yojana seeks to foster inclusive growth and strengthen the socio-economic fabric of Jharkhand.
